About Me

More than 20 years of experience as a journalist — covering everything from
education to municipal government, from business to technology, and everything in
between — has provided me a unique skill set that includes a capacity to absorb varied
viewpoints and factual evidence; it has also cultivated an innate, inquisitive nature.
While I don’t purport to have all the answers, I have the ability and the desire to
discover the best course of action across a variety of topics. Our experiences shape our perspectives, and I am proud to have been born to a family of Peruvian immigrants with Spanish as my first language. I’ve been a volunteer emergency medical technician and ambulance driver, a preschool helper parent, a photographer and a real estate agent. I’ve never stopped learning.

My current role as Editorial Director at a risk-management consulting startup firm involves me helping organizations foresee, understand, avoid and manage various types of risks, from legal and compliance, to safety and security, from cybersecurity to corporate governance. (See my LinkedIn profile here.)

I am an independent candidate for the South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education, and my campaign committee is Navarro for Board of Education. For more information, or to contribute, please visit my contact page or find me on Facebook. All photographs, videos, designs and writing were created personally by me.

Our school district needs bold, responsive and visionary leaders. We also have plenty of room for improvement around how we approach Transparency, Accountability and Dignity to best serve our entire community.
